While the majority of practicing pharmacists and student pharmacists are women, most professors and administrators in academic pharmacy are men, resulting in gender inequity. A joint Gender Equity Task Force was established by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and the American Pharmacists Association to investigate gender inequity within academic pharmacy. In this session led by women leaders in academia, health care, and professional organizations, panelists will discuss strategies from the published literature and lived experience to improve gender equity. This session will explore problems and identify solutions through an interactive format including mini-lectures, small group activities, and a panel discussion of administrators in academic pharmacy, health-systems, and research.

Learning Objectives:

  • Examine gender equity experiences in pharmacy academia, healthcare, and research
  • Describe challenges and strategies to improving gender equity at the individual-level and organization-level
  • Create a list of strategies and short- and long-term goals to complete strategies to improve gender equity
