Heather Free, PharmD, AAHIVP is a HIV clinical pharmacist with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation in Columbus, OH and consultant pharmacist nationwide. Her career has been centered around infectious disease, with emphasis on HIV care. She currently practices as a clinical pharmacist practitioner where she is credentialed and bills medically for patient care services within a provider office setting. She has been passionate in developing clinical programs for chronic conditions within specialty pharmacy, implementation of URAC/ACHC accreditation and operations of specialty pharmacy. She has an extensive background managing, but not limited to HIV, HCV, STDs, opioid misuse, mental health and transplant conditions. Her background has predominantly been obtained through her time working in the District of Columbia at Community, A Walgreens Pharmacy and BioScrip Specialty Pharmacy (purchased by Walgreens). During her 10 years of service with these organizations, she ran one of the leading ADAP pharmacies for the metro area, participating in many patient care programs centered around access to care, linkage to care and adherence to treatment. She created partnerships with local providers to strengthen the patient centered model within a community pharmacy setting, not only for the patient, but their caregivers as well. Her pharmacy team was highlighted by the CDC through a patient-centered HIV care models demonstration project (Shrestha RK, et al. “Patient-centered HIV Care Model Team. Costs and Cost-Effectiveness of the Patient-Centered HIV Care Model: A Collaboration Between Community-Based Pharmacists and Primary Medical Providers.” J Acquir Immune Defic Syndr. 2020 Nov 1;85(3):e48-e54. In addition, she sat on the DC Medicaid DUR Board for 8 years and several of the MCOs P&T committees, becoming knowledgeable around the Medicaid and Managed Medicaid insurances that may have been adjunctive to a patients ADAP benefits. She continues grassroots through Stonewall Columbus helping to advocate for care, including access to vaccines, STD treatment and access to PrEP services for the community.
