Dr. Anita Jacobson is a Clinical Professor at the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy and has worked as a pharmacist in a variety of patient care settings for over 25 years. She is the Program Director of the Community First Responder Program, which serves as the centralized hub for naloxone distribution in Rhode Island to community harm reduction and other non-profit organizations and the Director of the Northeast Regional Rural Opioid Technical Assistance Center.
Dr Jacobson’s main area of service and research is in the area of substance use disorder outreach to rural and vulnerable populations. She is a course instructor for the College of Health Sciences in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program and the College of Nursing in the undergraduate Community Health curriculum. She is the Coordinator of the Pharmacist Patient Care Process Laboratories at URI and delivers content in the Doctor of Pharmacy program on the topics of opioid use disorders, cultural humility, health disparities, social determinants of health, health literacy, motivational interviewing, and healthcare policy.
Dr Jacobson’s clinical practice site is Eleanor Slater Hospital, which is part of the Rhode Island Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals. She is a Past President of the Rhode Island Pharmacists Association and currently serves as a member and Secretary of the Board of Pharmacy at the Rhode Island Department of Health.
