ViiV Healthcare Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Florida and Puerto Rico
As an MSL, Dr. Leira Ramirez-Ruiz serves as medical expert for the ViiV portfolio and interacts with healthcare providers on scientific topics. She delivers presentations for healthcare professionals. Also attends scientific conferences and conventions to stay up-to-date on recent data in the HIV field.
Leira came to ViiV from her prior position as Ambulatory Pharmacy Specialist in HIV/Hepatitis C for Memorial Healthcare, Florida. She created her position and developed it to assist the specialty pharmacy while also providing service to clinic providers and patients. Her responsibilities included being an integral part of the infectious disease team, providing patient education on new regimens and medication adherence. Prior to this, Leira worked for 13 years at Cleveland Clinic Hospital in Weston, Florida as the Infectious Diseases Clinical Pharmacy Specialist. In progressive leadership roles there, she initiated the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program and her Infectious Disease pharmacist position. She was a preceptor for pharmacy and medical students/residents. Leira also served as a member of many hospital committes. She was inducted into the Society of Infectious Disease Pharmacists (SIDP) with BPS added Infectious Diseases qualifications (AQID). Earlier in her career, Leira practiced as a Board-Certified Medical Technologist.
Leira received her PharmD in 2005 from Nova Southeastern University, also completed her Pharmacy Practice Residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida in 2006. She is also Board certified in Pharmacotherapy (BCPS) as well as in Infectious Disease (BCIDP). She is a certified HIV Pharmacist by the American Academy of HIV Medicine (AAHIVP) and also certified in Antimicrobial Stewardship by Making a Difference in ID (MAD-ID).
Leira lives in Miramar, Florida with her husband and two children. Originally from Ponce, Puerto Rico. Leira is bilingual in English and Spanish.
