Nick McCormick joined the Harrison College of Pharmacy in August, 2021 as a staff Research Assistant II in the Department of Health Outcomes Research and Policy under Dr. Salisa Westrick. He completed his dual-degree bachelor of science in Psychology and Sociology with minors in Biology and Medical Humanities from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2018. In fall 2022 he enrolled in HORP as a PhD student and is currently in his second year.
Following undergrad, Nick worked as a Project Coordinator for BEST in CLASS at VCU where his research focused on the efficacy and replication of an intervention program for children at risk for emotional and behavioral disorders and the development of treatment integrity and social interaction measurements. During undergrad, his research was in epidemiology having completed an archival study examining the localized social determinants of health and disparate health outcomes between Black Americans and White Americans in historically segregated Richmond, Virginia neighborhoods.
Current Research:
Nick’s current research focuses on the management of chronic arthritic pain and the evaluation of dysfunctional opioid use and alcohol consumption as a result of chronic use and self-medication.
