Mayka Chaves is a third-year pharmacy student at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy.
Throughout her time in the school of Pharmacy, she has been able to collaborate with different communities to provide the highest level of care. Starting in her first year of pharmacy school, Mayka collaborated with Casa San Jose, a Hispanic resource center in the south of Pittsburgh, helping and interpreting for immigrants to receive healthcare and housing. As the president of the Queer Pharmacy Alliance at Pitt and the Government Relations Ambassador for the Pennsylvania Pharmacist Association, she showed her devotion to advocacy for different underserved groups in the community. As she progressed through school, she was able to work at not only Giant Eagle Pharmacy, but also the Veteran Affairs Hospital helping with prescription fill, data entry, and answering patient questions. Moving forward in her career, she hopes to care for patients in a direct manner and serve her community to the best of her ability.
