PharmD Candidate
University of South Carolina, College of Pharmacy
My name is Emily Rudisell, I am a second-year pharmacy student at the Univeristy of South Carolina College of Pharmacy. My first introduction to women's health in phramacy was my P1 year when my research advisor, Dr. Patricia Fabel, took me to the South Carolina state house to listen to the hearing for bill S-628. This bill was the next step for pharmacist earning the ability to prescribe hormonal contraceptives. It was eye-opening to see how a pharmacist was able to speak to the legislative board about how important this approval is and how beneficial the pharmacist can be to our population outside of verifying medication orders in the pharmacy. Since then, I have become more exposed to the need for advocacy in this area and have been shown by Dr. Fabel and the rest of my research team how important the pharmacist role is in this fight for healthcare access. Outside of women's healthcare access I am also interested in the general area of ambulatory care, psychiatric pharmacy, and internal medicine. I love being involved in leadership and am excited to have just been elected as Phi Lambda Sigma Zeta Chapter President at my college. This research project has allowed me to step beyond my percieved abilities as a student and learn even more about what impacts pharmacists can make. I am so excited, and eager, to keep learning about all fields of pharmacy and share my knowledge of how we can keep supporting women and their access to healthcare.
