Jamie C. Barner is Professor and Chair of the Health Outcomes Division and co-director for the Texas Center for Health Outcomes Research and Education at The University of Texas (UT) at Austin College of Pharmacy. She received her B.S. in Pharmacy from UT and her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Pharmacy Administration from Purdue University and then joined the faculty at UT, where she has been for 23 years. Dr. Barner is a member of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) and the International Society of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR). She is a Fellow of APhA and has held several leadership positions in the organization, including chair of the Economic Social and Administrative Sciences section. She was appointed by APhA to serve on the Pharmacy Quality Alliance Medication Adherence committee and she served as a member of the APhA MTM Advisory Board. She also served as chair of AACP’s Graduate Program Standards Academic Careers committee and is a Fellow of the AACP Academic Leadership Program and she served as Chair of the Social and Administrative Sciences section.
Dr. Barner’s research interests involve understanding factors that impact health care utilization and outcomes, medication adherence/persistence and pharmacist-provision of medication therapy management (MTM) services. Dr. Barner has published over 125 peer-reviewed papers and presented over 250 papers at professional meetings.
Dr. Barner teaches healthcare systems, pharmacoeconomics, research methods and data analysis. She received the inaugural College of Pharmacy Educator of the Year award in 2013, the Teaching Excellence Award for the P2 class in 2017, and the College of Pharmacy Graduate Teaching and Mentoring Award in 2020.
