Dr. Planas earned a B.S. in Pharmacy from Xavier University of Louisiana and Ph.D. in Pharmacy Health Care Administration from The University of Florida before joining the faculty at The University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy.
Her research interests involve evaluating medication optimization programs in community pharmacy and primary care settings, with recent emphasis on the safe and effective use of opioids among older adults. She teaches biostatistics and drug literature evaluation, and partners with Latinx communities to enhance patient activation and community engagement.
Dr. Planas is a member of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). She is Immediate Past Chair of the AACP Social and Administrative Sciences (SAS) section and Co-Chair of the APhA-APRS ESAS/AACP SAS Gender Equity Task Force. Dr. Planas is a recipient of the 2010 and 2015 APhA Clinical Research Paper Award. She is a Fellow of APhA and the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education.
