Krista Brooks, PharmD, BCPS, is an associate professor of Pharmacy Practice at the Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) College of Pharmacy where she has taught since 2011. Krista earned both a B.S. in Health Science and a PharmD from SWOSU, and is also certified as a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist. Prior to teaching at the college, Krista worked in independent retail pharmacy and completed a PGY1 residency at the Oklahoma City Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Didactic courses under her directorship include Pharmacotherapy I, Drug Information, and Pharm Care Lab IV, a clinical skills lab. She also teaches lectures in Introduction to Pharmacy and assists with IPPE discussion boards.
Dr. Brooks academic interests include focusing on various activities that help student pharmacists provide public health education to patients in rural areas. Additional research interests are centered in medication adherence, pharmacy student retention, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Dr. Brooks has served as the chapter advisor for the SWOSU APhA-ASP chapter for 9 years, and has enjoyed helping student pharmacists acheive their goals through various pharmacy-related activities, operational events, and leadership roles.
