Meijer/Wayne State University PGY-1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency
My name is Joe Fava, Pharm.D., BCACP, Clinical Assistant Professor at the Wayne State University (WSU) Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and Director of the Meijer Pharmacy/WSU Community-based PGY1 Residency Program. I have been a commuity pharmacist for over ten years, with formal training in health-system pharmacy (PGY1 residency, Beaumont Health System, 2013-14) and ambulatory care pharmacy (PGY2 residency, John D. Dingell Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 2014-15). Within the Pharm.D. program at WSU, I serve as coordinator of the Early Introductory Pharmacy Pracitce Experience course series and the Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery Certificate Training Program (APhA) for pharmacy students. Other areas taught include dermatology, self-care for diabetes, vaccine therapeutics, and ethical considerations in dispensing controlled substances. My research program focuses on primarily on the advancement of community pharmacy practice through the discovery and implementation of novel clinical initiatives and reimbursement models. Other areas of research include addressing vaccine hesitancy, scholarship of teaching and learning, and leadership in pharmacy.
