Caroline A. Gaither serves as Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Care and Health-Systems, University of Minnesota, College of Pharmacy. Before joining the University of Minnesota, she was a faculty member at the College of Pharmacy, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. She has over 25 years of experience as an educator, researcher and faculty member and practiced pharmacy in various community settings where she developed an interest in pharmacists’ work-related attitudes and behaviors. She received her pharmacy degree from the University of Toledo, and advanced degrees in Pharmacy Administration from Purdue University. Dr. Gaither served as pharmacy manager, director of graduate studies, department chair and assistant/senior associate dean of professional education. She served a three-year term as Chair of the Social and Administrative Sciences Section of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. In 2001, she was awarded the best-published paper from American Pharmacists Association - Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science (APhA-APRS) - Economic, Social and Administrative Sciences Section and in 2015 the Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy Impact Paper Award. She was selected as a Fellow of APhA-APRS in 2006, and received the distinguished alumnus award from the University of Toledo in 2007. Her research interests include understanding and improving the work life of pharmacists, specifically focusing on individual-level (organizational and professional commitment, job satisfaction, job stress, role conflict, turnover, and gender and race/ethnicity effects) and organizational-level (culture/climate and empowerment) factors. Dr. Gaither is a member of the Midwest Pharmacy Workforce Research Consortium, a research team that studies trends in the pharmacy workforce for the past twenty years. She taught courses in communication, research methods, professional development, and social and behavioral theories in pharmacy practice. She conducted and/or mentored numerous research projects with PharmD, Masters’ and PhD students.
