Dr. Kam Capoccia received her B.S. degree in Pharmacy from the University of Connecticut and her Pharm.D. from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. She completed a PGY1 residency at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill and a PGY2 residency in Primary Care at the University of Washington Family Medical Center in Seattle. Dr. Capoccia has spent more than 25 years in practice as an ambulatory care pharmacist and as a community pharmacist. She has been a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) since 2000 and became a Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) in December of 2015. Dr. Capoccia is currently providing care at the WNEU COPHS and Big Y Foods Inc. Consultation and Wellness Center. The Consultation and Wellness Center is a free, education-based service that focuses on chronic disease state management. An Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES) accredited Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) Program is provided at the Center. In September of 2018, Dr. Capoccia received the Upsher Smith Excellence in Innovation Award from the Massachusetts Pharmacists Association for the establishment of the Center and the services provided. She is also the Residency Program Director for two PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Programs at Western New England University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. In January of 2021, Dr. Capoccia became a certified trainer for Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). She uses MHFA routinely to reach out and provide help and support to anyone who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use problem or crisis, whether it be in her personal life, in the care of patients, her students or the community.
