DEI Town Hall: APhA’s DEIB Journey - What Next?

APhA has been weaving diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) into the fabric of all we do with a focus on antiracism, gender equity, health equity and social determinants of health (SDOH).

On February 13, 2024, APhA’s Board of Trustees launched the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee (DEIB), a new board-appointed, permanent member-facing committee which will continue the work of the Task Force on Structural Racism (formed in 2020). The charge of the DEIB Committee is to advise and recommend activities and programs aimed at addressing DEIB needs of the profession. The Committee has made its first set of formal recommendations to the Board in November 2023 and will be presenting their selected priorities, their intended outcomes and what they hope to accomplish throughout 2024.

Further, the Committee members present invite conference attendees to provide feedback on their prioritized work for 2024, and to inform the committee on what they would like to see accomplished by the committee in future years. This session is meant to be interactive. The hope of the committee is that discussion is natural, centered around the truths of the lived experience of the members present and that we can develop a sense for the direction the general membership would like to see the committee take with its work.
