(1211) Patient Satisfaction with a University-based Vaccination and Wellness Center

Objectives: The objectives of this study are to 1) assess patient satisfaction with services offered at a university-based vaccination and wellness center; and 2) identify potential future services that are of interest to patients of the center. The Pitt Vaccination and Health Connection Hub (the Hub) is a central access point for vaccinations, health screening, and care connection services to the University of Pittsburgh community and its neighbors. The Hub operates in coordination with University Pharmacy, an independent, university-owned pharmacy on campus. The Hub is also a place where students from the University’s six health science schools engage in interprofessional collaboration through experiential learning. While the Hub has provided over 40,000 vaccine doses since opening and patients have provided anecdotal feedback, there has been no formal, quantitative evaluation of satisfaction to date. Additionally, as the Hub expands services, an evaluation of patient interest in future services would be valuable. This project will quantify the satisfaction of patients with the services offered at the Hub and identify potential areas of improvement and growth for the practice.

Methods: This is a quantitative, cross-sectional survey study. Subjects will be adult patients who have received services at the Hub. Several published surveys on patient satisfaction related to community-based pharmacy practice were used as a foundation for survey item development. Additional investigator-generated questions were added to the survey. The survey questions address which services the patient received at the Hub, the reasons they chose to utilize services at the Hub, their satisfaction with their experience including working with students, and what services they would like to see provided in the future. Questions include Likert scale, multiple choice, and select open-ended questions. Subjects are being recruited at the Hub and select mass vaccination events between October 2023 and January 2024. Subjects are invited to anonymously participate in the survey immediately following their service via a QR code provided by Hub staff or volunteers. We anticipate the survey link being provided to approximately 1,500 individuals during this period. Descriptive statistics of the data will be performed. Responses to Likert scale questions for overall pharmacy satisfaction will be converted into total numerical scores. Means and standard deviations for scores will be calculated. Means of scores will be compared across services using t-tests, with a p-value of 0.05 considered significant. Content analysis of responses to open-ended survey items will be performed. This project was deemed non-human subjects research by the University of Pittsburgh Institutional Review Board.

Results: Research in progress.

Conclusions: The results of this survey will give us valuable insight into overall patient satisfaction with the Hub, as well as specific areas for improvement and potential growth. Our research may also highlight successes for other universities or independent community pharmacies that are interested in expanding vaccination and wellness efforts or involving students from multiple health science disciplines in community-based care.
